George Harrison gets a Hollywood Star

Image provided by Floyd B. Bariscale

More Beatles news… On April 14, the late great George Harrison is receiving his own star – the 2,382nd – on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It will be accepted by his wife and son, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, right outside the Capitol Records building (the big round one that looks like something from The Jetsons).

Hope they play While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Coldplay – Tap Tap Revenge

Guitar Hero doesn’t have any Coldplay tunes (as far as I know). Nor can you play against Chris Martin from your living room.

But I do plan on stealing my mate’s iPhone to play Tap Tap Revenge Coldplay. Might be tough to beat the actual band though, considering they do this type of stuff for a living. If you want to give it a shot, they’re Coldplay Anchorman on the global leaderboard. God speed.

PS, Happy Easter y’all!

The Beatles – Everything Ever, Remastered

I’m a Lennon girl (it was the hair). You might be a McCartney person. We can fight it out on The Beatles Rock Band, out on 09-09-09 worldwide. But you can’t play the tunes if you don’t know the albums.

On September 9, the whole Beatles catalogue is being released, digitally re-mastered for the first time. As much fun as it’d be to hang out at Abbey Rd listening to Magical Mystery Tour and playing with vintage equipment all day, I’m not jealous of the team of 7 engineers – it took them four years.

The end product is a collector’s wet dream… 14 stereo albums, each with original UK album art, expanded booklets with original and new liner notes, rare photos, and a doco film about each album. Plus two boxsets (The Stereo Albums, and The Beatles in Mono ). Plus notes and essays by Kevin Howlett. Plus a DVD collection of the album docos. Help! and Rubber Soul include the ‘65 original stereo mixes (never released on disc), and come in a mini vinyl CD replica of the original sleeves.

Unfortunately no Ringo lego figures – cuteness!

The Beatles

Most people’s musical journeys started with The Beatles – courtesy of cherished vinyl collections, teachers’ enthused recommendations, far too many jingles, and for a lucky few, the first-hand experience. Now I once again plan on drowning out my whole street with Blue Jay Way.

Meet you for that Rock Band showdown  in September.

A day at sea with Bob Evans

Action!

On Monday, a crew of 10 boarded a fishing trawler at Sydney Fish Markets and embarked upon a day of shooting at sea for Bob Evans’ next single Pasha Bulker. The track is titled after the large sea vessel that was wondrously marooned at Newcastle’s Nobbys Beach a couple of years back after a mighty storm.

Thankfully, the sea was tame, the flannels were warm, and there will be a video in the coming weeks. Here’s a preview…

Lady of the Sunshine – Songs That Make You Go “Ahhh”

Our wonderkid, Mr. Angus Stone (aka “Lady Of The Sunshine” or “He of the ever-morphing facial hair”) has just scored some awesome praise for his solo album nationwide.

Angus Stone's Moustache

My favourite quote of all comes from the Newcastle Herald claiming that “C&C Music Factory had ‘Things That Make You Go, Mmm’, and the first album from Angus Stone’s side project – Lady Of The Sunshine – has songs that make you go ‘Ahhh’.”

C&C Music Factory

Smoking Gun in my honest opinion is a dang fine listen. It’s a great journey through twee folky acoustic bliss delving into some serious blues grunt guitar licks.  Listen to White Rose Parade here, listen to more tracks on his myspace – www.myspace.com/ladyofthesunshine

And just to top off how cool this album is (even though it’s hard to go past C&C Music Factory), it was all recorded in an old water tank. I’m sure it looked just like one of these:

Keith Urban – Kiss A Girl

How can you expect Keith Urban to be greeted by an all female studio audience, after walking on-set to play the aptly titled Kiss A Girl?

We’ve heard of Beatle-mania and Oba-mania, but this level of hysterical squealing definitely deserves the title of Urba-mania. An Aussie accent, winning a CMA, a #1 album debut in the US, and a newborn baby girl must be good for the skin (and the ladies).

You can preview the album Defying Gravity on his Last.fm channel.

Arcade Fire – Miroir Noir Pitchfork Exclusive!

WOW! For one week only – Pitchfork are streaming the new Arcade Fire DVD – Mirror Noir.

Pitchfork Exclusive

Arcade Fire: Miroir Noir
Not just another concert movie, this experimental documentary mixes live footage with intimate in-studio bits and bizarre infomercial-esque scenes to create an intriguingly unnerving atmosphere. The 70-minute film is featured in its entirety.

Ben Harper – Shimmer and Shine

We have a Sydney city date with Ben Harper and Relentless 7 this Thursday**. Can’t wait to see Ben gain some altitude (he tends to jump… alot).

Ben Harper gains altitude

Unless you’re heading way up north for the Blues & Roots Fest this long weekend, there’s only one other chance to see Ben Harper live on this trip… If you’re a Melbournian on April 12, you can join the rove audience when Ben, Jason, Jordan, and Jesse hop on stage. Submit your deets here on the rove website.

The vid for Shimmer & Shine shows that life on tour with the guys would be serious fun. I bet their van driver has already submitted his demo – that’s how Ben and Relentless 7’s guitarist Jason Mozersky met.

To hear and share Fly One Time and Boots Like These from the upcoming album White Lies For Dark Times, grab the widget.

** Head to Faster Louder to win a ticket for the Syd show

Live at the Wireless with Lily Allen

When Lily Allen paid a visit to Australia last month, you might have heard her co-host on Triple J with fellow tweeter, Dools. Following her on-air stint, Lily and a couple of bandmates went into the ABC Studios to perform a very special acoustic set for thirty lucky winners.

Well, it’s not just for those thirty people to brag about anymore as we all get to take a listen this Monday on Live at the Wireless. Tune in at 8pm on April 6th and again at 5pm on Sunday, April 12th to hear tracks from It’s Not Me, It’s You in a whole new way.

On yer radio and online.
