Everything Is True on August 14thFor months it has simply been referred to as the ‘Paul Dempsey solo album’. Pay close attention, dear readers, because we now have a title, Everything Is True. It will be out August 14th. In honour of that, take another listen to the first single ‘Out the Airlock’.
Much, much more to come!
Standing on the Shore previewWhat a Friday treat! We awoke this morning to find the new trailer for the forthcoming vid for Empire of the Sun’s Standing On The Shore. It was filmed just north of Perth in Western Oz – the most isolated city in the world and incidentally the home of the one and only Emperor Steele! Not sure whether to be freaked out or turned on by the lycra swordfish girls…
Beastie Boys are taking on Hot SauceAs announced by Mike D, Adrock and MCA themselves on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, was the title for the upcoming new Beastie Boys album HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE. The band’s eight album of all new original material will drrrrop this spring, with an exact date to be confirmed shortly. The B Boys have also been going all Willy Wonka on our booty too with a golden ticket style roll out of random seven inch vinyl copies of new track “Lee Majors Come Again” and the acapella version of “B Boys In The Cut” as part of the recently released deluxe vinyl edition of Check Your Head. One copy of the seven inch was found selling on eBay for $105 – that’s $25 above the list price of the original Check Your Head package in which it was included in! The new track “Lee Majors Come Again” has just made it’s way to YouTube. So much Beasties action that I need to take a moment! …and check them ripping out “So What’cha Want’ featuring The Roots on Jimmy Fallon earlier this week.
Coldplay are always up to somethingDid you get your free live album yet from Coldplay? Ok, good, that means you’re keeping up with Coldplay. But in case you haven’t gotten over to the interview with Chris Martin on Coldplay.com, we’ll provide the abridged version:
Iggy Pop releasing jazz (!?) albumYep, we’re confused too… but certainly not complaining. In June, Iggy (the Sophisticato) is releasing Préliminaires, a concept album based on the life and novel of French author Michel Houellebecq. Iggy created his own score to the book The Possibility of an Island, which is about “death, sex, the end of the human race, and some other pretty funny stuff”.
I guess the Grandfather of Punk has been experimenting a wee bit – he admits he’s started listening to “a lot of New Orleans-era, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton type of jazz”. The album does include “one vaguely raucous song” but mainly features jazz arrangements, the Edith Piaf standard Autumn Leaves (in French, no less), and an awesome track King of the Dogs in which a dog explains how much cooler canine life is than being a human. There are too many vids to post them all here. But the most entertaining is certainly the interactive vid for King of the Dogs, where you choose your own doggy lifestyle – miner, businessman, or punk rocker. Of course with each option you get to urinate in public. SCORE!
Iron Maiden Flight 666 – the gameLessons from today:
…unless you’re Bruce Dickinson, in which case you have free range to do what you like in the world and we’ll luv ya regardless.
Kiss a Beatle – right on the mouthGood Monday morrow, InSound-ians. What better way to usher in the week than to relive teenage fantasies of kissing a Beatle? Thanks to No Smoking In The Skull Cave for this lippy treat.
Rainy Days and Fridays
Friday. 4pm. Sydney is doing its best imitation of both London and Seattle. So, I’ve canvassed my colleagues for their rainy day favourites and — voila! — we’ve got a soundtrack for basking in dreariness.
Jamie T – Sticks ‘N’ Stones – we got the vid!South London lad Jamie T caused a wee bit of mayhem on the platform of Wimbledon Station for his Sticks ‘N’ Stones vid. No strawberries, cream, ball boys, or Roger Federer in site. Lots of broken glass, spilled beer, geezers, and clown makeup however. Jamie and his lads made it over to Oz 18 months ago and rowdied up an adoring mob at Sydney’s Gaelic Club eating the palm of his hand. Or rather, they returned him to the stage and quietened down (somewhat briefly) upon request. Time for another lager-soaked tour methinks!
