We’ll be participating in the sweaty chaotic mayhem this Saturday at the Helen Rose-Schauersberger Laboratorium. Grab a free download of No Money so you know what you’re in for, and check out a review of the last party the lads tore to shreds.
Level 1/17 Waterloo St, Surry Hills, $5 entry.
All ages – 3-5pm
18+ – 8-10.30pm, with cheap drinks and a monstrous afterparty to remember.
I never would have thought to pair wistful, plucky double bass lines with underage skaters, nor lyrics about a dream girl with the homicidal mamma from House of 1000 Corpses – but Cass McCombs has found a way.
Academy Award and Grammy nominated Karen Black features on this utterly charming track Dreams Come True Girl from McCombs’ upcoming album Catacombs. Check it out on HD. It’s… yummy – in a crazy voluptuous cat-lady hanging out in a graffitied bathroom kinda way.
We’ve had lots of requests for lyrics so now for your karaoke-ing pleasure…
You’re not my dream girl.
You’re not my reality girl.
You’re my dreams come true girl.
All the troubles in my past
That’s just what they are.
And all the delusions that took host and passed
Have only made my immunity strong.
I’ve been blessed.
Your eyes are two moons.
I hope this voyage will not be ending very soon.
Just crying in orbit with these mirrors of perfection.
To die in the arms of your affection.
What land is this?
May I never wake.
(No no no no no no no your dream.)
(Take me dancing tonight.)
(Take me out, it’s Saturday!)
Mark “Miami” Holland showed me DJ Mehdi’s version of this today and once I came down from my Meredith 2001 type flash back I decided I’d try it with Miami Horror’s Don’t Be On With Her video and it works a treat.
Probably not great if you are on any type of hallucinogenic medication, pregnant or a fly…
I once went out with a contemporary dancer, so as part of our 3 year relationship I ended up going to see quite a bit of said dancing. Some was utter shit but some I really liked. Suffice to say I’m no longer with said girl although we are still friends, thanks for asking.
One thing I remember from sitting in those cold dance studios watching asymmetrical movement was the sound pieces that accompanied them. I always thought to myself, this sounds cool I should do this, it can’t be that hard can it. Well, I never did… until this morning when this awesome piece of interactive youtube genius was sent my way.
Paul Dempsey’s Out the Airlock, now playing on MySpace and where’ere you would like to embed and share. Directed by Bart Borghesi of Pirate Films and filmed ‘on location’ at the Australian Model Railway Association’s Victoria Branch.
Empire of the Sun has recorded a cover of Blackbox Recorder’s The Art Of Driving for a BMW TV campaign for their new Z4 model.
The track featuring Luke Steele’s wife Jodi guest vocals, follows in suit of some great musically collaborations that BMW has worked with, including the BodyRockers, Moloko and last year The Presets to launch new models.
Luke has been very excited about this project not only ‘cos he loved the track but also as he is also a massive fan of artist Robin Rhode, who worked on this ad as well.
Check out the ad that can only be found on the BMW site, and head to walkingonadream.com for a full dose of the track.
Just so y’all know – I’ve regularly been sifting through the A&R Drop Box gold (and sometimes not so gold) submissions. I thought I’d bring some standouts to your attention.
Firstly, let me introduce you to Adelaide Power Pop / Rock band Move To Strike.
They’re not really creating anything new in the music world, but they know what they are doing and represent the genre well. And it really shows that they’re having fun with it all too.
Check this video for my personal favourite song on their myspace ‘This Year’.
Obviously all you need is Photobooth, a loud stereo, beer & a ceiling fan to make a clip these days.
Another promising outfit handed on a platter in our A&R Drop Box is Streetlight.
Fusing together a blend of UK heavyweights like The Music & Kasabian, with a hint of U2 and INXS to boot – these boys are really developing into something worth listening out for.
I recommend the track ‘Sapphires’ on their myspace & grab yourself an mp3 at Triple J Unearthed if you dig.
