30 Seconds To Mars announce new album details – ‘This Is War’

…and you can be part of the artwork!!!

To prove just how much Jared Leto loves his flock of followers, the new 30 Seconds to Mars album, This Is War, will have 2000 different album covers featuring individual photos of fans from around the world. You can submit  a photo to be used for the covers by heading to www.thirtysecondstomars.com. The first 2000 photos to be uploaded will become album covers – easy as that!

This crazy level of fan involvement follows on from when the band teamed up with their online community, The Echelon, earlier this year to record sounds for This Is War in a groundbreaking event they dubbed, “The Summit“. The band invited The Echelon members to travel to Los Angeles to take part in an impromptu recording session at Hollywood’s Avalon Club. It was so successful that Thirty Seconds to Mars decided to hold summits in 8 more countries across the world (Australia, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Canada) in order to give their biggest supporters an opportunity to be a part of their new album.

You will get to hear the results when This Is War is released on November 20th, and be sure to listen out for the new single Kings & Queens when it hits radio in early October.

Jamie T’s Metro Sydney gig – bloody brilliant

I am still pumped after seeing Jamie T’s last night at the Sydney Metro. It was one of the most high energy, highly involved crowds I’ve seen at a gig in ages (god bless all ages shows!). Tonight’s 2nd show is sold out but Jamie & The Pacemakers will be touring the rest of the country and there are a few tickets left to some of the gigs from Love Police – you won’t be disappointed.

Jamie loves it so much here in OZ it’s just been announced he’ll return in summer for Falls, Southbound, Sunset Sounds along side a stellar line up. Check it out at www.wayoverthere.com.au

Jamie’s new album KINGS & QUEENS featuring Chaka Demus (a crowd fav last night) and Sticks ‘n Stones is out now.

Peninsula’s Got Talent

Occasionaly here at theinsound, we’re able to throw some weight and help out with band competitions.

With the great musicians coming from the Northen Beaches of Sydney like Angus & Julia Stone – we thought it would be great to focus on the songwriters coming out of that area with the Peninsula’s Got Talent competition.

Here’s the winners from the first round.

Zoe Elliott

Congrats!

Hey Brisbane, win tix to Triple J Paul Dempsey gig

Triple J is putting on a show for the fair city of Brisbane next Wednesday, Sept 23 at the Troubadour headlined by none other than Mr. Paul Dempsey.  He’ll be joined by Kid Sam on the bill.

Tickets are not available for sale, so how do you get yourself on the guest list? A couple of ways: tune in to Triple J or come up with a genius cover song that Paul and band should play.

He’s known for his renditions of Billie Jean, Time to Pretend, and Born to Run, but what do YOU want him to play?

Kara’s pick is Paul Simon’s ‘Boy in the Bubble. I’m going with Bryan Ferry’s Love Is The Drug.

To WIN: email your song to info@pauldemspeymusic.com by Sunday, Sept. 20 Include your phone number. Show is 18+ and prize does not include transport or accomm.

Animal Collective – forsooth, they’re coming to Oz!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be well aware that Brooklyn’s mighty Animal Collective has come into the zenith of their musical heights in 2009, delivering one of the year’s biggest indie albums with the very genius and critically ravished Merriweather Post Pavilion.

ac

It’s an album of epic, deliriously happy and head-spinning squelchy summery psych-pop proportions that you can bet your bottom dollar will be topping a number of end of year polls and lists. Oz fans have been (rightfully) whingeing and crying Collective tears since 2006 – the last time the band toured for Feels – that they would come back and bestow their live shows on our shores again… Well your prayers have been answered, so don’t say the indie Gods never give you NUTTIN!

The promised ones will be headlining Meredith Music Festival (SOLD OUT!! Most demand for tix they’ve ever had) and HEADLINE shows that you’ll be cursing yourself if you miss out on. So a word to the wise, DON’T and get yourself a ticket when they go on sale next Friday, August 25… for all of two seconds. Presented by Triple J and SPA.

GO GO GO!

Ticketing deets are on our Tours page, but dates are:

  • BRISBANE – Thursday 10 December
  • SYDNEY – Friday 11 December
  • MELBOURNE – Monday 14 December
  • PERTH – Thursday 17 December

Faker’s “Sleepwalking” up for an IF award!

Faker’s massive 2007 album Be The Twilight spawned this nifty little video for Sleepwalking – you know the one with the ear-wormy doo-doo-doo chorus….

The very-David-Lynch clip was directed by Luke Eve and is up for an Australian Inside Film Award! It was inspired by Gregory Crewdson’s photography and filmed in Sydney’s Centennial Park in one take on a horridly stormy night. Thankfully I was not on the shoot, but some other InSounders had to endure the cold dark night until dawn!

The final version is one of the last two takes between the rain clearing and the sun rising. Close call!

Voting for the IF awards ends this week so vote now!
