Operator Please play secret show on the Gold Coast!

Operator Please kicked off what will be a MASSIVE year for the band with a secret show last night at the “Never Land Bar” on the Gold Coast. As you can tell it wasn’t a secret for long as the place was packed and going off to their new tunes from their upcoming album Gloves which is out on April 23.  The new album is an orgasmic feast of rock electro pop that will have the world losing their shit – it is seriosuly that good. Check out some footage below….

Dirty Projectors & Solange Knowles – CHAPTER 2

And the saga continues… As we told you a little while back, über-cool genre-straddler & member of the talented Knowles clan, Solange, did a cover of the stunning stunning amazing beautiful AWESOME track Stillness Is The Move by the equally stunning stunning amazing beautiful AWESOME Dirty Projectors! And so the whole indie world did rejoice, for there was a new poster girl in town, one advertising the wonders to be born from uniting the worlds of soul/r’n'b and alternative music… showcasing one of the new directions in which music seems to be heading. A direction I am SUPER excited about!

dirty projectors + solange

So I was even more excited to find that Chapter Two sees them performing the track together! The magical incident occurred at a party for the new Opening Ceremony store in New York, check it out:

Combining the original with Solange’s reworking of the song works a treat; the two versions together almost create an even bigger explosion of pure awesomeness. And check out the lungs on those ladies, my oh my. SIZZLIN!!

As if that wasn’t enough, they all went on to cover Groove Theory’s Tell Me… also included for your enjoyment!

The future will be… Chapter Three! Whoo, personally, I can’t wait.

Ben Harper covers Springsteen for Haiti

I know there are alot of incredible songs and uniting of artists around the globe for “Artists for Peace and Justice Haiti Relief” to raise much needed funds for Haiti, but I just had to bring your attention to Ben Harper’s incredible cover of Bruce Springsteen My Father’s House.

Ben Harper / Springsteen

Here’s the video performed live at the Kennedy Center Honors, Dec 6 2009 with Bruce himself watching on:

You can buy it now at iTunes as part of a split digital single released with Eddie Vedder’s version of My City of Ruins.

A Place To Bury Strangers hit FBi studios (& give away a free track)

Last week I took A Place To Bury Strangers out to radio before their Sydney Oxford Arts Factory show on Thursday. We did triple j, FBi and 2SER.

These pics are from FBi. They spoke with Shag (Thursdays 3-6pm).

A Place To Bury Strangers

Everyone was really interested in talking to them about their “wall of sound” noise and how they come up with their sounds. They’ve produced effects and guitar sounds for the Trent Reznor and the Edge. Guitar nerds love it.

The opening track It Is Nothing off the new album Exploding Head has over 100 guitar tracks on it!

Meanwhile, the band are giving away the second track from the album, In Your Heart from the Civil Society website. Go fetch.

New Robbie Williams video…QUICK see it first

Robbie’s new video for Morning Sun is directed by Vaughan Arnell, director of classic Robbie videos including Angels, Feel, and, most recently, Bodies.

Morning Sun

The Morning Sun music video sees Robbie rocketing out of space on an intergalactic voyage through the stars.

Morning Sun is from Robbie Williams‘ album Reality Killed The Video Star out now:

Murdoc Niccals has been sighted (and thinks Lady Gaga’s a…)

There have been videos, interviews, and whispers and radio shows from the Gorillaz but to date no one has sited them… at last it looks like someone’s found Murdoc. Looks like his time on the wagon has passed!

Murdoch sighted

Running off to exotic isles with champagne & suitcases of cash isn’t the only thing keeping Murdoc busy however. He’s also been guest-blogging for MTV and speculating on a pact between Beezlebub and Lady Gaga. According to Murdoc, all her success simply can’t be attributed to fireworks exploding out of her brassiere on-stage… but her Satan-y roots means she’s invited to the Plastic Beach anytime…

Gorillaz Plastic Beach is out March 5.

Free download of Yeasayer’s new single O.N.E

Hands up who has been waiting for a new Yeasayer album since the stereo died down after spinning 2007/8’s magnificent middle-eastern-infused-brain-melter All Hour Cymbals for the first time?
“More tunes!” we said… “More tunes now!”
Yeasayer

It’s been a torturous wait, but we were richly awarded late last year when Yeasayer delivered Ambling Alp, a very different percussive electro-pop number off the new album Odd Blood. If All Hour Cymbals was an album for lazy afternoons evaporating in a haze of smoke, spirits, and sitars, then Odd Blood is a wholly different drug-induced haze – a LSD-laced sun-bleached space trip. The landscapes in the Ambling Alp video make me think that this is exactly the type of quirky pop listened to on David Bowie’s desert homeworld from The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Now it’s time for single #2 from Odd Blood, which the band are kindly giving away using the widget below. The track O.N.E follows in the same vein as Ambling Alp – catchy vocals, sunshiny synth melodies, and a serious pop sensibility. Go forth and download:

Goldfrapp – Head First on a Rocket!

Disco-glam Alison Goldfrapp is back after her 2008 LSD-laced folk trip in the woods, and she is ready to party… on a rocket.

The first track we’ve heard from Goldfrapp’s (remember, they’re a duo) upcoming album Head First is the glittery disco number Rocket – which is streaming from their myspace as we speak. Don’t forget to don your pink jumpsuit and platforms (seriously, we’re not jumping to disco stereotypes – that’s Alison’s garb on the Rocket artwork).

Goldfrapp

That’s it so far from the album Head First, out March 19… except for this 25 second preview of silky smooth tunes to come. Oh they tease us so!
