Maybe it was the heavy weight of expectation but upon first listen I wanted more from this. There’s no immediate ‘hook song’ like Feel Good Inc. and some of Damon’s Brit-feeling vocals felt out of kilter with the very Americanised feel of Snoop Dogg’s delivery. And overall I felt it was somewhat disconnected with super highs and moderate plateaus. But upon a second listen I was entranced by the technical brillaince, well-considered nuances and tenous connections between songs. And I knew at that instant that Plastic Beach is an album of serious music and is set to be a classic!
