Gorillaz #1 album, new video AND YouTube’s biggest music video

Australia was the first country in the world to announce a #1 album for Gorillaz Plastic Beach. I think that’s because we have great taste!

Set to be the big single on the album according to numerous reviews, here’s a video for Superfast Jellyfish.

Is that what happens when you stand too close to the microwave?

On videos, the video for Stylo which debuted on March 3 on YouTube, is already looking like it might become one of the biggest music clips in the site’s history. The track racked up 900,000 plays within the first 24 hours, which beats records previously held by U2 and Weezer and it’s currently past the 2 million views mark. OK, it’s short of Susan Boyle I Dreamed A Dream but its early days yet for Stylo.

Also making a splash with our friends out there in blog land we’ve had some pretty cool responses to our Jane Gillings artworks made of recycled rubbish (and I am sure they were disinfected!)

Airbourne takes over Warrnambool’s Capricorn Records

Sniff – can you smell the excitement in the air… you certainly could in the main street of Warrnambool.

What was it all about? Of course it was the release of the local lads AIRBOURNE, second album NO GUTS, NO GLORY.

Michael and his team were completely in the AIRBOURNE spirit, with a live radio broadcast from the store & matching T-Shirts!

Nothing like a bit of old school in store promotion.

soulmate

Rising hip-hop and electronic label Soulmate Records has partnered with EMI Music Australia to release and distribute a number of upcoming musical projects.

Soulmate, founded in 2006 and based in Melbourne, boasts an artist roster including:

  • Pez – 2009 ARIA Award Nominee, 2009 AIR Award Winner and #7 in 2009’s Triple J Hottest 100 for The Festival Song.

The first release coming out will be 360’s sophomore album, drawing on influences as diverse as Santigold, Daft Punk, and Lil Wayne to create a wildly experimental but expertly crafted eclectic hip-hop masterpiece produced entirely by Melbourne’s own Styalz Fuego.

If you want to be first on board in hearing the future of Australian hip-hop, check out one of 360’s demos for his upcoming album Falling & Flying on the myspace called I Hate You.

Adam Yauch updates on new Beastie’s album delay

Adam Yauch // Hot Sauce Committee Pt 1

TheInSound has been keeping you updated on Adam’s recovery from cancer treatment, which last year resulted in the Beastie’s delaying the release of their studio album Hot Sauce Committee until he returned to full health.

In a recent Rolling Stone interview Yauch let us in on some more:

He’s feeling significantly better and “getting my energy back” after the medical treatments, but Beastie fans might have to wait a bit longer for the group’s new disc Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1. “It was really disappointing to have to hold the record and postpone the tour, but doctor’s orders. We may or may not [release Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1] depending on how my health is come September. We want to but we have to play it by ear,” Yauch said.

Erika’s first TV performance on the Morning Show (plus a sneaky gig at our offices)

Erika performed for the first time on TV since she took home the award from It Takes Two.

She chatted to the Morning Show’s Larry and Kylie about the songwriting process, too many cups of tea, and appropriate performance footwear. (Have to say, very cool boots…)

And in fact, Erika wore the v same Roc boots when she dropped  in to our office this afternoon to perform an acoustic set for us over a few beers and crisps. After threatening to choke on said potato crisp, Erika performed several songs from her forthcoming album, written and recorded throughout the UK, US, and Australia. In short, it all sounds absolutely stunning, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it!

Angus & Julia Stone “Draw Your Swords” – Witchery Autumn/Winter 2010

Angus & Julia Stone

There is something really special about finding an audio/visual partnership that just….. works… Check out this stunning piece of footage from Sydney-based director Kiku Ohe for Witchery’s Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection. I am sure that you will agree that this mini-movie utterly transports you to another romantic world for a blissful 2 minutes and 24 seconds. Greatly contributing to this atmosphere are the gorgeous vocals of Angus (of Angus & Julia Stone fame) singing Draw Your Swords – one of the more poignant tracks from the duo’s forthcoming album entitled Down The Way (to be released 12th March 2010).

Watch it. Fall in love. Buy some clothes.

Now you’ve had a taste of Down The Way, head over to Angus & Julia Stone’s myspace this week to stream the album in full before it’s available on Friday. As for Saturday… Angus & Julia will be signing albums in their home territory of Sydney’s Northern Beaches:  be at Warringah Mall’s Mall Music from 1pm.

3 days is enough warning to grow a bushy Angus-esque beard, right???
