We think BIG DEAL are a pretty big deal. The boy-girl duo, based in East London, have already released a couple of awesome singles  and debut album Lights Out is due for an Oz  release on January 20th. TISFWO caught up with the handsome pair (Alice Costelloe and kc Underwood) to find out more:

What are BIG DEAL all about?
We’re pretty straight forward, it’s just us two. We write together and play together and that’s what makes Big Deal.

Where did your name come from?
A shared terrible sense of humour. We thought it was a funny joke when we started….now it doesn’t seem so entertaining.

Tell us about your latest release?
Our album is out in Europe and the US/ Australia in January. It’s made up of 12 songs we wrote during the summer.

What three albums should people listen to before they put on BIG DEAL?
I don’t know, hopefully people are just listening to music anyway so they don’t need to do any specific preparation before they can play our album. When we were writing the album, Arcade Fire’s the suburbs had just come out and we listened to that alot, so maybe that album.

What’s the one thing you need to bring on tour?
The one thing I think is most important to bring is a toothbrush. KC needs to bring his Nintendo DS and his laptop. The last tour we watched a lot of X Files episodes on the laptop in the van.

What is a BIG DEAL live show all about?
It’s all about the drums.

Best live moment so far?
Playing Reading Festival was great, we played in this big circus tent and got to be re-united with bands who’d become our friends in the year like Grouplove. Then we got to watch the Strokes, one of our favourite bands play later that night. It was the perfect day.

If you could request a ridiculous and excessive rider, what would be on it?
Cornetto Enigmas, pizza, burritos, precious stones, holy water, virgin blood…that kind of thing.

Who would you perform with on stage if you could choose a surprise duet?
That’s a tricky question….I think it would be cool to play with Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden from MGMT, it would be like a duo of duos.

What’s next for BIG DEAL?
We’ll be touring our album in Europe and the US at the beginning of the next year, going out to SXSW in March, and then start trying to write another album!
