A&R DemosThe A&R Team are still losing their minds within the midst of the Demo Stockpile trying to find the latest and greatest thing! If you’re an artist / band – make sure you submit your music through the A&R Dropbox because entries are going to be listened to & reviewed on this here webpage (Australian artists only sorry!). The Eyes & Ears of EMI Australia. Here’s the lowdown on our latest signing from Mark in A&R It brings me the utmost pleasure to announce our newest signing to the label, THE SLIPS. We first came into contact with the guys through their production work in the UK, fell in love with their remixes (CSS / The XX / Crystal Fighters / Ellie Gouliding / Kylie and LCD Soundsystem) and watched them make the mighty leap over to sunny Australia this year. They’ve built quite a reputation for themselves here already too – with production and collaboration work with some great Aussie & Kiwi artists (Kimbra, Faker, Phrase, Flight Facilities and Zowie) and you might’ve even heard their banger of a remix of Flight Facilities ‘Foreign Language’ on the new Ministry Of Sound Annual 2012. Their live show is ready to electro-fi dancefloors, so expect to see them out there in 2012. Mixing eclectic dance sets with live drums and matching 8-bit retro visuals, back on their home turf they were invited to support the likes of Kasabian, Friendly Fires, Alex Metric and Pnau as well as playing at Glastonbury Festival and The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). When you’ve got great tunes, great guys and a great ambition to work.. we really do feel extremely privileged to work with The Slips. Turn your speakers up, and let loose with their debut single featuring all-round good guy of Aussie hip-hop Phrase on lyrical duties. The Slips – Downtown (feat. Phrase) by theinsound

Thanks for that. You must totally get to listen to a big mix of different sounds. I do wonder if you get put off a demo if it doesn’t pull you in straight away.
Haha I totally agree with your perspective on myspace. The friends don’t mean so much. It’s more how you can mobilise them and the power of word of mouth through the net. I know as my 47,000 85% in Auz give me little attention unless I make an effort ..

I find King Cannons hard to swallow: Wearing matching uniforms, brushing hair between songs and over the top bravado. But I guess these are all the hallmarks of a major label “punk” band. Well done Capitol.
