Quick Q&A* with Paul Dempsey
You’re playing the They Will Have Their Way Neil and Tim Finn tribute concerts – what was your first Finn epiphany?
Mean to Me, on the very first Crowded House record, was the first one. It’s the first thing I remember being aware of from Neil Finn. I think I was eight or nine years old. I remember figuring out how to play it on the guitar. I’ve always loved that song.
The concerts will feature yourself, Sarah Blasko, Clare Bowditch, Sally Seltmann, Lior, Holly Throsby and Alexander Gow singing Finn tunes. How’s it going to work?
We’ll all be doing a couple of things ourselves, then collaborating, partnering up in different ways.
How are you going to choose who sings what?
It’s still early on in the song selection process. Everyone will have their favourites. There’s so many possibilities for different combinations of people. And, of course, so many brilliant songs. My wish list is a gigantic list. Whittling it down is the challenge.
