This Saturday, David appeared at two of the world’s biggest parties: the official Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras party and Sydney’s Future Music Festival – and still had enough energy to pop down to Bondi Beach for lunch. If you were anywhere on the East Coast this weekend, you must have felt the thumping bass and seen the colourful costumes pouring out of both parties, but the few below earned our respect:
After sending 30,000 Future Music punters apes*it (overhearing Future Music-goers’ hyped conversations in Central Stn that morning, Guetta’s set was THE set they were desperate not to miss), David swiftly headed over to the Entertainment Quarter for the Mardi Gras party.
Get a load of this – When Loves Takes Over featuring Kelly Rowland, weddings, an Archbishop (wonder which?), beautiful boys and girls, some teeny-tiny Greek tunics, and a whole load of glitter confetti!
A few of us here at EMI have had the absolute pleasure of working with David Guetta this week. Not only is he a superstar DJ who has played to millions of party-goers, sold millions of albums (over 4 records), worked with stars like AKON, Kelly Rowland, Black Eyed Peas, Kid Cudi and Queen of Pop Madonna (new single apparently on the way – eeeep!), won a Grammy….he is just an all round good bloke! Ever the gentleman and always polite, we’ve had a great time showing him round our neck of the woods!
This morning he appearead on Sunrise with guest vocalist and good friend Kelly Rowland. If you missed the high-energy performance of their hit When Love Takes Over check it out HERE.
On the way out of the Sunrise studios, we came across a life-size egg, who was allegedly giving money away on the show. Unfortunately we did not nab any of his cash but I did nab this priceless photo:
Weird? Definitely. But it made me think of this past hit by David Guetta Vs The Egg!
David is playing Future Music Festival around the nation and has released a tour edition of One Love exclusive to Australia to celebrate! Make sure you get along to a show and say ‘Bonjour!’ (or G’day?) to our favourite Frenchie!
So who procrastinated for half of Monday watching the entire Grammy’s pre-telecast online?
If you had the stamina for the full broadcast, you would have found out in real-time that our lovely local chap Keith Urban swooped up the Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for Sweet Thing from his 2009 album Defying Gravity. Keith however, discovered his win over the phone while he was charming reporters on the red carpet! As a result , we just have a very pleased Keith and his Grammy chatting backstage – acceptance speech, schmacceptace speech!
David ‘King of the Clubs’ Guetta however OWNED the award ceremony – taking out Best Remixed Recording (Non-Classical) for his Kelly Rowland anthem When Loves Takes Over.
Riding off the back of the biggest ARIA Awards since Ben Hur (please don’t mention that ARIAs didn’t necessarily operate during the time of Christ), it’s difficult to let the party die down. After all, it’s only 3 weeks til Christmas!
So indeed the good times continue with the news that we (that’s EMI worldwide, not my band) have FIFTY SIX Grammy Award nominations in the whopping one hundred and nine categories – far too many to list, but here are our EMI highlights!
Multiple nominees include our favourite shaggy-haired, bikini-babe-surrounded Frenchman David Guetta (who also produced The Black Eyed Peas’ Grammy nominated album and record of the year), Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Keith Urban and American Classic legend Willie Nelson.
Katy Perry announced the Best Rock Album nominees and discussed the Black Eyed Peas nominations – watch the videos.
And yes, the reason why the Grammy artwork is so cool this year is no other than Shepard Fairey – the man behind THAT Obama / Hope and Obey / Giant artwork – is responsible. OBEY (great music)
We just blasted the David Guetta One Love continuous album mix in the office (go listen yourself on inthemix.com.au) and have found myself exhausted by the end of the 66mins of power-urban-pop-euro-house-beats. Phew!
It wouldn’t be understatement to say that it does indeed provide “that fiya fiya fiya for the dancefloor“.
Check out the excessively charming Guetta explain what it’s like working with a foot-long list huge stars and the ethos behind his album One Love. In short, electronic music from Europe meets urban culture from America. Why didn’t anyone think of that before!?
Note to self: when interviewing the world’s #1 House DJ (or any other iber-talented musician), perhaps don’t sing their own tunes back to them. Pretty sure that is a cardinal music sin.
So far we have two massive dancefloor global anthems – When Love Takes Over and Sexy Bitch – but we still don’t know much about David Guetta’s upcoming album One Love… UNTIL NOW.
Turn up your speakers. THIS. IS. EPIC.
