Eliza Doolittle, live at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory, 30/11/2010

As expected, Eliza Doolittle blew us all away last night with her performance at the Oxford Art Factory, showing us exactly why she is one of the hottest acts in the UK right now!

Eliza played all the hits-to-be from her self titled debut album, with the audience easily knowing which songs to bop to (Pack Up) and which to sway (Nobody). Continuing to woo an already won over crowd, she performed a cover of Big Jet Plane from our very own Angus & Julia Stone (Eliza learned it just for us and made it sound far dirtier than originally intended!). She then pointed out for those at the back that her fondness for Australia didn’t stop there – she was also wearing a Koala t-shirt too! (a stoned koala nonetheless). Another crowdpleaser Cee Lo Green’s Fuck You had the room singing along. If you haven’t already I suggest you check her version out online!

Eliza Doolittle and bassplayer Chris

Not only does Eliza have a voice beyond her years and an amazing ear for music she has an eye for talent too! Proof in the form of her bass player Chris who I’m sure has stolen many hearts with his cheeky grin and Abercrombie & Fitch hair!

Eliza’s amazing performance won over the most skeptical of skeptics (who I saw dancing away from the bar) and she proved that this is just the start – she is definitely a star on the rise!

Eliza Doolittle made her Australian live TV and radio performance debuts today – her first gig was on Sunrise performing Pack Up at 7.40am (ouch!) Watch it at Yahoo7.

Eliza Doolittle covers Cee-Lo’s “Fuck You”

She’s heading here in a few weeks, and if you haven’t heard of Eliza Doolittle then you’re bound to be inundated with Eliza-ness when she blows us all away live at two shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
Meanwhile, she loves a bit of a cover, and her latest is backstage at one of her shows where she performs a pitch perfect rendition of Cee-Lo Green’s hit Fuck You. Her hand actions may beguile her age (where does one put their hands when they’re under 30?), but you can’t deny that this filly is one to watch…

Meanwhile if you’re keen to get along to one of the shows and meet the gorgeous gal in person then take your pick from Nova or Groupie’s latest competitions!

See you at the show….

Catch Eliza on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, November 30 – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
  • Thursday December 2 – The Toff in Town, Melbourne

Eliza Doolittle Australian dates – tickets on sale today!

Australian fans of London-born songstress Eliza Doolittle, or those discovering Eliza through her single Pack Up currently spinning on Nova, can rejoice as dates for her promotional visit have been confirmed. She will be playing exclusive headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne in support of her debut self-titled album.

Eliza was inspired by the garage mentality of 60’s and 70’s pop, which is evident in her infectiously catchy tracks tunes… Pack Up and Skinny Genes have seen her quickly become one of the artists to watch in 2010 according to the likes of Who Weekly (read the article here).

If you’ve not heard the album, check out her facebook page where you can stream the whole album.

Be sure to catch Eliza Doolittle when she’s in our neighbourhood – just in time for summer! Tix went on sale from Moshtix at 9am today.

Eliza Doolittle coming to OZ and winning hearts here already

London-born songstress Eliza Doolittle has been going gangbusters in the UK with her breezy singles Pack Up and Skinny Genes. Last Friday she released her self-titled debut album here too, and she has just confirmed Tuesday Nov 30 to Friday Dec 3 for a whirlwind promo tour of Oz (Melbourne & Sydney).

Lady Eliza is already winning hearts here with amazing reviews from the likes of Groupie who describe her as “the aural equivalent to lemonade: her voice is clear, sugary sweet, bubbly and best served on a sunny day. With her self-titled debut album she’s dished up a delicious brand of pop with impossibly catchy hooks, irreverent lyrics and with her bright, brash threads, she’s an irresistible pop-package.” (read the rest of the review on Groupie)

And Who Mag love her too! (check it out below)

Both compare Eliza to Lily Allen (which can’t be a bad thing!) but attribute her with a uniquely original sound and lyrics. Have a listen yourself on Eliza’s facebook, or just grab her self-titled album at JB Hi-Fi or iTunes.

Eliza Doolittle – discover her first

Well, everyone in the UK knows about her because she’s held a top 5 album for weeks now, but here in Australia we are only just discovering Eliza.

This week we took her single Pack Up to Australian radio and TV… it’s catchy, cool, and very funky:

I’m thinking a little bit Lily Allen and a little bit Duffy or somewhere in between… what do you think?

This young lady is super talented and seems to be able to put her voice to anything… check out her cover of Radiohead’s Creep:

Cool huh!?

7 Tracks That Are ROCKING Liesl’s iTunes Summer Playlist This Year

1. Eliza Doolittle – Rollerblades
2. The Brighton Port Authority feat Olly Hite – So It Goes
3. The Constellations – Setback
4. Cortney Tidwell – Watusii
5. Dirty Projectors – Stillness Is The Move
6. A Fine Frenzy – Bird of the Summer
7. OK Go – WTF?

1. Eliza Doolittle “Rollerblades”

It was love at first listen with the stunning new tunes from UK Soulstress Eliza Doolittle. Her music is so happy-go-lucky and reminiscent of years long gone. If a favourite had to be chosen it would be “Rollerblades” (skip to 1 minute 30), but really everything coming out of this girl is pure gold.

Perfect to listen to whilst….errr… rollerblading on a summer’s afternoon.

2. The Brighton Port Authority feat. Olly Hite “So It Goes”

Nothing screams sexy summer beach party like “So It Goes”. You will find your fingers clicking of their own accord when you get to the chorus. In fact, the whole album from The Brighton Port Authority is bloody awesome (for a bit more ‘tude make sure you check out “He’s Frank” featuring the enigmatic Iggy Pop!)

3. The Constellations “Setback”

The groovy album by The Constellations only landed in my inbox a couple of weeks ago, however I am absolutely LOVING the whole thing, and especially summer road trip anthem “Setback”. It balance plenty of grunt and a grinding bass line with a super catchy pop chorus hook that promises to have you singing along in NO time (funnily enough as I type this several EMI staff are walking past my office and joining in on the “Ba Ba Bahs” – quite amusing!)

4. Cortney Tidwell “Watusii”

This has been one of my favourite tracks all year – awesome, dirty, intense indie party track with a gorgeous double tracking on the vocals and real urgent driving beat.

5. Dirty Projectors “Stillness Is The Move”

THIS is your drunk-at 5am-in-the-red-light-district-on-New-Years-morning anthem. Kooky, quirky, intense and kinda messed up all at the same time. And have you heard the Solange Knowles version??

6. A Fine Frenzy “Bird Of The Summer”

Delicate, beautiful and altogether inspiring. This is the track to listen to over a glass of chilled white wine at a summer afternoon BBQ with friends.

7. Ok Go! “WTF”

Wow. Wow. This track is SO HOT RIGHT NOW!! One of the rare tracks that grabs you by the eyeballs and insists that you LISTEN AND DANCE DAMMIT!! NOW!!

OK Go - WTF?

PHEW! Merry Christmas :)
