Hear JET’s “Shaka Rock” and Nic Cester’s foul mouth

JET don’t really do subtlety… they tend to specialise more in loud, in-your-face, unashamed ROCK. Shaka Rock, to be exact.

So, why am I not surprised by Nic Cester’s statement that the band would “very much appreciate it if you would go and buy our fucking album“??

Can do from this Friday, Mr Cester… but in the meanwhile, you can listen to Shaka Rock in full over on JET’s myspace profile. And yep, that’s a global premiere exclusive. Thanks for the preview boys! Pick it up from iTunes on Friday.

Leave a voicemail for Jet or hear from them!

Jet have a SayNow account where they will be leaving messages and you can leave messages for them!  The Australian number is (02) 8014 4829.  To find out more hit www.saynow.com/jet

If you call from your mobile phone, you’ll get a text message letting you know whenever they send a voice message. They’ve already left 5 voicemails, some straight from the tour-van! SayNow is free, but your phone company may charge for air time or text messages depending on the plan you have.

Don’t forget SHAKA ROCK is out THIS Friday! Pre-order it on iTunes.

5 of JET’s Favourite songs

1. Water Get No Enemy by Fela Kuti
Amazing arrangement, mean ass horns, this track bristles its so tight then knocks you down like a rhino charge. I mind was blown the first time I heard this….

2. Poison Flour by Dr Alimantado

This features great toasting from the Doctor and the chorus will stay in your head for a very long time. Also watch out for some of the most house vibrating bass this side of Kingston, you may need to get the builders in for some repairs.

What more do we need from an old Skool reggae track? Nothing.

3. Robot Rock by Daft Punk (live version from Alive 2007)

This song stomps you to the ground like some ginny gangster in a Scorsese film. There are upwards of a dozen different beats and variations all with the same evil riff.

4. Dirty Water by The Standells

We are in Boston at the moment doing a show and this song is synonymous with this town. We put it on as our entrance song last time we were here and the crowd went fucking nuts, singing and stomping. We will probably do it again tonight, hey it works don’t it?

5. Family Affair by Sly and the Family Stone

I once heard ‘There’s a riot going on’ described as the soundtrack for a hangover. I couldn’t describe it any better and I completely agree. For this reason this was the soundtrack to half my life touring our first two records. There is something about the ratty recording and the layer upon layer upon layer rhythms that fascinates the ear. One of my all time favorite records and this song is the cornerstone.

JET’s Nic Cester hospitalised

JET’s Nic Cester – the more laid back member below – is currently undergoing further tests and evaluations after his on stage collapse at Q The Music Club Live At Hard Rock Cafe last night. The Aussie rocker is suffering from dehydration and severe low blood pressure and is being held in hospital for a second day awaiting test results. The guys have reported on their twitter (@jettheband) that Nic is A-OK and will be released by 6pm today.

Josh Klemme from Tenth Street Entertainment, the band’s management company in New York says,
JET is just completing their second trip around the world in support of the upcoming release of Shaka Rock. Hopping from airplane to airplane, city to city and country to country could compromise anyone’s health. Nic’s drive to give it his all and get up on stage to perform despite feeling ill is a testament to how strongly he and the band feel about “She’s A Genius” as a single and Shaka Rock as an album.

JET are currently promoting their third studio album Shaka Rock which is out in Australia on August 21. You SHOULD already know all the words to She’s A Genius.

Get better Nic!

Jet – She’s A Genius (but doesn’t cycle like one)

Can’t really recommend bicycling through the streets of L.A. whilst wearing a peripheral-vision-blocking Chewbacca mask… I recently broke a rib whilst cycling on a traffic-free park trail, no Star Wars characters in sight – it’s a dangerous world, kids.

But this lady is clearly late for a very important date with JET. She’s A Genius is the first single from JET’s third album Shaka Rock. And it does exactly what it’s meant to: ROCK.

And is that Ethan Hawke’s icecream she swipes??

Supermarket Massacre

I must admit, when I first blogged about this Jet track – I did not invision a Hot Fuzz-esque Shopping Market Massacre.
