Lily Allen was channeling Britney in more ways that one when she stepped out on stage at the 2009 Bestival on the Isle of Wight last weekend. Apart from her stellar performance of Womanizer (note actual live vocals / no vocoder), isn’t the scanty outfit a bit more electro-pop than we’re used to seeing Ms Allen don?

Lily has been mixing up the fashion more of late: a heavily made-up and evening-gown-draped Lily traipses through the warzone of a ladies room on a Saturday night for the clip for 22, and a platinum blond alter-ego (not Bat For Lash’s blond alter-ego Pearl) gracing the cover of UK Elle mag.

Other headliners at Bestival included Massive Attack (check out their new EP in full!), Kraftwerk, and the aforementioned Bat for Lashes. Not bad for a wintery weekend in the country!

Lily owns the cover of ELLE UK for October. And lucky girl that she is, a bevy of designers created clothes especially for her especially for this cover.

Hello from the UK! The kind folks here at theinsound have asked me to pop in from time to time with a few updates from the land of poms and pop stars. Don’t worry though – the current Mrs John is Australian, meaning that I quite regularly use words like “pash” and “snags” (I have to draw the line at “dooner” though) in general conversation. I hope to fit in here nicely.

So on Saturday 11^th July, Lily Allen took to the stage at London’s Somerset House – by day the venue houses several different government offices – but by night its magnificent courtyard plays host to summer concerts, outdoor films (I caught Leon there last year – awesome) and at Christmas turns into a large ice rink.

However, unlike our friends at Wimbledon’s Centre Court, the 18^th century building is still(!) lacking a detractable roof, and thus I pretty much got pissed on for about an hour and a half. It was worth it though, and the constant drizzle never threatened to dampen the spirits of the crowd.

At exactly 9.30pm, Lily’s silhouette appeared along with the band’s on the white canvass that concealed the stage set – and after a few bars of album opener Everyone’s At It – the sheet dropped to the floor revealing the young songstress draped in a glittering shawl and poised for a glamorous performance.

When Lily Allen sidled into town earlier this year, she stopped by triple j to play an exclusive and very intimate gig for 30 lucky listeners.  This is stripped back Lily – accompanied by just keys and guitar.

It’s Lily weeeeek!!!

Our undercover spy Trent (ok, he’s our resident promo expert up north), headed to The Tivoli in Brisbane for the first show of Lily’s massive Australian tour. Sounds like an incredible gig, and I can’t wait to power down the computer & head over to Sydney’s Hordern tonight myself! Here’s the lowdown on the Brissy show:

Monday was the Queen’s birthday public holiday and Brisbane was lucky enough to have the new Queen of cool pop in town, on throne and holding court at The Tivoli.

From the blazing opening light-effects of Everyone’s At It through to all the favourites including LDN, Smile, Not Fair, Oh My God, The Fear, she had the adoring crowd in the palm of her hand. An absolute highlight was F*ck You where everyone in the audience happily followed Lily and held their middle finger proudly in the air supporting her objection to homophobic politicians taking office in the UK.

Her final song for the night (which we’ll not reveal so not to disappoint fans yet to see the show) was not what anyone expected but reassured everyone that Lily delivers better than anyone else.

Lily is up to lots more while she’s in Oz…
