Miami Horror – Echoplex

Miami Horror are constantly whetting our appetite for sublime, dreamlike, and transcendent imagery paired with shimmering indie-electro tracks (remember all the incredible album artwork and videos?)… now we’re insatiable!

Miami Horror Illumination track artwork

Thankfully, the latest on-screen delight has arrived. The video is an online exclusive as Echoplex isn’t an official single – but it’s a sun-drenched, blissed-out hit nonetheless.

Featuring several lovely VICE Mag styled ladies frolicking underwater and exploring their sisterhood, we present you with Echoplex

Illumination has been unleashed & is available through our sister store The In Song, iTunes, JB Hi-Fi, Sanity, and ye olde local record shoppe.

Miami Horror’s Ben Plant takes us through “Illumination” in depth and track-by-track

Miami Horror are currently one of the most talked about bands on the net since the release of their #10 debut album Illumination on August 20. Everyone from NME to Pitchfork are talking about them and loving it! Now we get, from the man himself, a look inside the album and Miami Horror’s story plus an in-depth track by track of what went on behind the writing and recording of each of the songs on the album.

Miami Horror - Illumination Perfectly titled, the debut LP from Melbourne’s mastermind electro-producer Benjamin Plant, is really a shining beacon of talented production and creativity, illuminating the path for Australian house/electro to make its way to the forefront of the music industry. The transition from a one man creation to a full-band, sees Miami Horror drift away from the endless loop that is the solo electro artist to a more enlightened (the last pun on the title I swear!) musical endeavour. The end result is a left wing pop record, that flourishes with absorbing synth and retro-disco of 70’s and 80’s pop.

After the numbingly transient opener Infinite Canyons the listener is greeted by the disco/funk grooves of I Look to You with the tender vocals of Melbourne singer Kimbra; really sets the albums fuller, more sonorous effect. It becomes apparent that the four years of work that went into this record were not wasted. The following tracks Sometimes and Moon Theory, which were the first dribbles of the album that the general public were able to grasp, further display the band’s subversion of the electro/house genre with lush arrangements and the flawless inter-mingling of electronic and acoustic instruments, rivalled only by the smooth electric guitar lines in the ornate album book-end Summersun.

Moon Theory video Miami Horror - Moon Theory

As Pedestrian describe it:

Miami Horror’s cinematic clip for single “Moon Theory” features a sexy Marlboro Man on a desert adventure who experiences an excellent case of synaesthesia and finds the alien mothership. Just another Friday night.

Moon Theory is available now with the hot club remix from Sam La More which is fast climbing the club charts. Grab it here.

Miami Horror ‘Moon Theory’ video trailer…

So what happened to the couple at the end of the Miami Horror Sometimes clip? Did they live happily ever after in the dome thing? Did some kind of prehistoric flying creature come down and steel them for baby flying creature food or did they just continue to stare into the distance for a bit, then head back to the beach, get back into their boat and head back to where ever it was they came…

Well the answers to this and many more questions may or may not be answered in the Moon Theory video but it’s definitely going to be amazing.
