I’m letting you in on a little secret… As you know, superstar DJ/producers Swedish House Mafia have been announced this week as headliners of the 2012 Future Music Festival. And as if that wasn’t enough, our very own Tinie Tempah and Alex Metric will also be gracing Aussie shores to play at the festival. It’s a serious line up.
The ticket pre-sale kicks off at 9am AEST this coming Monday 17th October. So if you’re not a fool and you don’t want to miss out, I highly recommend you get involved and register for the pre-sale. You’ll be sent an email on Sunday with a password then all you have to do is set your alarm on Monday morning, get your tickets and then feel smug for the rest of the day that you didn’t miss out. Easy.
This morning has seen the announcement that so many die hard house music fans have been waiting for… DJ/producer legends Swedish House Mafia will perform their first ever live shows in Oz when they headline the 2012 Future Music Festival. We cannot wait! Not only that, but the threesome made up of renowned DJs Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello have also announced that they’ll be releasing a brand new live album this December – double whammy!
The album will be called ‘One Night Stand’ and will feature a bevy of red hot exclusive tracks including their next single ‘Antidote (SHM vs Knife Party)’, along with Coldplay VS Swedish House Mafia ‘Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall’, Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso ‘Calling’, Steve Angello ‘Yeah’, plus tracks from the SHM family including global exclusive Red Hot Chilli Peppers ‘Otherside (The Third Party Remix)’, AN21 and Max Vangeli, featuring Example, Alesso, Thomas Gold… the list goes on.
The first single, ‘Antidote’ is a banging collaboration with the buzzworthy Knife Party, a.k.a Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Heat on the single is already building in the UK since Pete Tong premiered it on his Radio One show and last week. Check it out (with the volume up):
Not only that but the super influential Radio One DJ Zane Lowe has tagged the track as ‘The Hottest Record In The World’. Catch him having a word with the boys here.
Australian fans needn’t wait too long. This Saturday night at 10pm DJ Grant Smillie will spin the track as an exclusive Aussie radio premiere across on his national radio show on Nova FM. House party anyone???!
Hold on to your potatoes Australia, you are in for a massive treat.
While indie and dance fans may have become a little disillusioned by festival announcements of late, many of us were thrilled to wake up this Monday morning to the news that not one, two, but a TOTAL ONSLAUGHT of incredible artists will be heading down these parts for 2012 festival season.
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival
It’s all about the girls at this year’s St Jerome’s Laneway festival with the ridiculously talented Laura Marling,Anna Calvi and Feist all heading up the bill. Then there’s Chairlift, Austra, Active Child, Pajama Club (feat. Sharon and Neill Finn), The Horrors, The Drums, SBTRKT and much, much more… see below and head to their Facebook page for more. Laneway will tour Australia in February 2012.
Future Music Festival
Swedish House Mafia have confirmed all Australia tour rumours as true and will be headlining Future alongside Fatboy Slim, Tinie Tempah, Paul Van Dyk, The Wombats, Alex Metric, Die Antwoord, Jessie J, SBTRKT, Aphex Twin, James Murphy and Pat Mahony (LCD Soundsystem) and wayyyyy more. Future will tour the country in March 2012. Read the rest of the lineup here.
Hmmm… wonder if Tinie and SHM will join forces at Future?
Could this be Swedish House Mafia announcing Australian shows for the future?
We sure hope so. Following the announcement of their show in Madison Square Gardens in New York which sold out in an astonishing 10 minutes(!!!), and the UK show at Milton Keynes Bowl which has also sold out, we’re hoping the Swedes will head to our neck of the woods and give us a taste of that incredible live show too.
And are we going to be in for a double treat? The below video teases a live album called One Night Stand to be released in December… Merry Christmas!
Ahh… British comedian Peter Serafinowicz strikes again.
Last time we featured Serafinowicz’s work, he gave us with the greatest demonic pop show in history with Hot Chip’s I Feel Better video. Now he makes a surprisingly good Rocky Balboa (with a futuristic twist) in Alex Metric and Steve Angello’s video for Open Your Eyes. If the vocals are distantly familiar, it’s because they’re usually backed by the lackadaisical muted guitar work of The Stone Roses (ie, it’s Ian Brown).
If you’re not fully across the track’s creators…
Steve Angello is a highly regarded DJ and Producer worldwide with underground productions, but who has recently gone on to scale giddying heights as part of Swedish House Mafia.
Alex Metric’s glitchy 80s synth-pop productions have been devastating dancefloors worldwide since his 2008 Deadly On A Mission EP. Alex has just remixed Depeche Mode’s iconic Personal Jesus for their Remixes 2:81-11 album (out tomorrow!). You can follow Alex and Steve on respectively on twitter at @alexmetric and @steveangello
Open Your Eyes has been released as a digital single and a remix bundle. Alex’s similarly titled album featuring original material, remixes and productions will be out later this year.
Did you get to attend the epic Swedish House Mafia Take One documentary premieres last week?
Wednesday’s event was at the Chauvel Cinema in Sydney whilst the iconic Astor Theatre was the location for the Thursday’s Melbourne premiere.
The screenings were held to celebrate the release of the Until One deluxe edition product containing the Take One documentary on DVD, the Until One album on CD, a 10″ vinyl with instrumental versions the singles One and Miami 2 Ibiza plus a beautiful 40 page history of Swedish House Mafia. You can buy it from JB Hi-Fi here.
Across the two nights, over 700 people turned up – almost 200 in Sydney and around 550 in Melbourne.
At both screenings, the crowd cheered, laughed and applauded throughout the the 45 minute film documenting the highs and lows of life on the road for Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello across 285 gigs and 15 countries.
In Melbourne, Mikey Cahill, journalist from the Herald Sun, gave a big welcome introduction to gee up the crowd whilst at the end there was a special guest appearance from Sebastian Ingrosso himself who popped in to say hi to the hoards of fans. Other artists in attendance included international stars Afrojack and Redshape, and Aussie DJs Andy Murphy, Feenix Pal, and Polyfonik.
A great couple of nights… and there are more yet to come in the Gold Coast, Adelaide, and more! Visit theinsoundfromwayout.com/swedishhousemafia NOW for tix for the Gold Coast screening. Quickly now, the screening is this Thursday & the comp ends 4pm tomorrow (Wednesday)!
The powerhouse trio that is Swedish House Mafia (Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso) have finished up summer in Ibiza. But soon enough, you’ll be seeing the boys in Australia… Sebastian Ingrosso will be co-headlining the Stereosonic festival kicking off this November and Steve Angello is heading down to Oz for Future Music Fest in March 2011. More importantly all three will be on a silver screen in Melbourne and Sydney this December for exclusive screenings of the Take One documentary.
You may have heard about SHM’s upcoming album Until One? Well it’s also the soundtrack to the eagerly-awaited aforementioned film Take One. Directed by their mate Christian Larson, the doco follows Axwell, Angello and Ingrosso over two years, 285 gigs and 15 countries.
It takes you on a rollercoaster which goes beyond the music to show what binds together three friends, artists, and pioneers in an emotional ride to success as a singular group. It documents the trend in recent years that has seen DJs portrayed as the new rock stars (hello, you’ve seen Guetta bouncing behind the decks away in his videos!) – and where the 80’s gave birth to acid house.
And for even MORE tunes, here’s one of our favorite discoveries of recent times… Foals covering Swedish House Mafia’s One (Your Name). Different, but equally brilliant!
The incredible new video for Swedish House MafiaOne (Your Name) featuring Pharrell has been unleashed. Directed by Christian Larson, the “unofficial 4th member of the group”, the video takes us through vivid scenes of a dark and twisted party filled with a number of sinister looking masked characters. Make sure you stay tuned all the way to the end – it’s kinda gruesome.
Set to be the biggest dance act of the next year, Swedish House Mafia is a (yes, Swedish!) DJ collective made up of superstars Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. Each have enjoyed individual success with their own acclaimed independent record labels.
Axwell’s Axtone is known for hits including I Found You and Watch The Sunrise as well as remixes for Madonna, Pharrell, Roger Sanchez and The Temper Trap. Steve Angello scored a global hit with Show Me Love (with Laidback Luke) and has collaborated with N*E*R*D and Kid Sister. He’s also released his own album The Yearbook on his label Size Records. Sebastian Ingrosso produced the track Cupid Boy on Kylie’s new album whilst his notorious bootleg mix of MGMT’s Kids was an underground sensation which he followed by co-producing How Soon Is Now with David Guetta. He also recently delivered club hit Silvia for Miike Snow (with Dirty South) on his label Refune Records.
Clubbers are gonna lose their minds if they haven’t already when they hear One from undoubtedly one of the biggest acts in dance music today – Swedish House Mafia.
Swedish House Mafia is a group of three top house DJs and producers: Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. One has hit Number One on every cool dance chart around the world and is already Top 5 on the Australian Club Charts. Buzz Chart stated that it’s “the biggest buzz on a record for 10 years! This breathtaking epic will be the dance track of the decade not just the summer”.
