Me and The Beatles

At some point we have all wished for a time machine…

I was 13 1/2 years of age (it was important to mention the 1/2 back then) and had been in high school for about 6 months. There was a guy I went to school with called Keith who played the drums and although I didn’t realise at the time played them in a way very similar to his namesake in The Who.. We became friends through a mutual love of music.

My musical tastes were completely unformed and I bought 7″ singles of songs that I liked from the radio. One day Keith came to school and handed me a record and I remember thinking at the time how heavy it was obviously because it was a double album. The albums was predominantly red in colour and had a picture of these four guys who were looking over the edge of a balcony in what looked like an apartment block. The album was The Beatles 1962-1966.

I got home that afternoon and immediately put it on my parents radiogram as I didn’t have my own record player at the time. The sound that came out of those speakers was something that transformed and excited me in ways that I previously hadn’t experienced. The energy, excitement and joy that every one of these pop songs was filled with almost made me giddy.

The Beatles 2009 Brisbane tour

Today in Brisbane I got to have some fun with my key accounts as I went out and talked about the biggest musical event ever… The Beatles remastered..

I had some great fun with these accounts and the excitement is really starting to kick in….To celebrate this monumental event it seemed like a good excuse to “frock up” for the part (not that I need much cajoling to throw on a Beatles outfit at the best of times)

These accounts were all kind enough to get involved in some pictures which I have added below… I can also say that the outfit made getting a coffee in the Valley this morning a whole new experience.

Chances of seeing me in this outfit again on the 09 09 09 is approximately 100%!

The greatest band of all time and they are on EMI… HELL YEAH

The Beatles – I Met The Walrus

Kids breaking into hotel rooms again…

Even though our own Dixie met Michael Jackson and Jerry Levitan met John Lennon by sneaking into their hotels, I promise we’re really not advocating that type of stuff… try and stay behind the security detail if you will?

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatles fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon’s hotel in Toronto and charmed him into a lifechanging interview. 38 years later, Levitan, director Josh Raskin and illustrator James Braithwaite collaborated to create an animated short film using the original interview recording as the soundtrack. What resulted, was a spellbinding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit and timeless message, I Met the Walrus. The film was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award for Animated Short, and has since won a slew of other awards.

The Beatles Rock Band – WOW

I’m not truly a gamer – but plastic guitar or otherwise, who honestly turns down the opportunity to play I Wanna Hold Your Hand to a stadium of mid-Beatlemania hysterical fans?

We knew this game was hitting on 09/09/09, who knew just how INCREDIBLE it would look. Check out that outta-this-world facial detail on the trailer.

Kiss a Beatle – right on the mouth

Good Monday morrow, InSound-ians.

What better way to usher in the week than to relive teenage fantasies of kissing a Beatle? Thanks to No Smoking In The Skull Cave for this lippy treat.

Na na na na na, na na na, Hey Jude…

Nothing like having over 13,000 people singing along to The Beatles classic Hey Jude to stop traffic in London’s Trafalgar Square. T-Mobile are up to their commercial antics again after the success of ‘The Dance’ at Liverpool Station.

This time instead of getting the punters to shake their groove things, Karaoke was the flavour of the day. Not sure that London’s got that much talent but at least they chose a great track and pulled off a cameo from Pink (oh and Santa Claus).

The Beatles – Everything Ever, Remastered

I’m a Lennon girl (it was the hair). You might be a McCartney person. We can fight it out on The Beatles Rock Band, out on 09-09-09 worldwide. But you can’t play the tunes if you don’t know the albums.

On September 9, the whole Beatles catalogue is being released, digitally re-mastered for the first time. As much fun as it’d be to hang out at Abbey Rd listening to Magical Mystery Tour and playing with vintage equipment all day, I’m not jealous of the team of 7 engineers – it took them four years.

The end product is a collector’s wet dream… 14 stereo albums, each with original UK album art, expanded booklets with original and new liner notes, rare photos, and a doco film about each album. Plus two boxsets (The Stereo Albums, and The Beatles in Mono ). Plus notes and essays by Kevin Howlett. Plus a DVD collection of the album docos. Help! and Rubber Soul include the ‘65 original stereo mixes (never released on disc), and come in a mini vinyl CD replica of the original sleeves.

Unfortunately no Ringo lego figures – cuteness!

Most people’s musical journeys started with The Beatles – courtesy of cherished vinyl collections, teachers’ enthused recommendations, far too many jingles, and for a lucky few, the first-hand experience. Now I once again plan on drowning out my whole street with Blue Jay Way.

Meet you for that Rock Band showdown  in September.
