Five reasons to be excited about music right now…

1. BJORK
New album imminent and new video directed by Michel Gondry. How great is it just after 3 minutes where it all goes mental? There’s no one like her. Always interesting.

2. ROBYN covering Coldplay’s “Every Tear Is A Waterfall” on BBC Radio 1 yesterday. Swoon!

3. LAURA MARLING “Sophia”: Can I just say….her upcoming album is just extraordinary. I cant wait for people to hear it. Download “Sophia” or pre-order A Creature I Don’t Know on Sophia - Sophia - Single

4. SPLENDOUR SIDESHOWS: The Kills, Wild Beasts, Goldfields, Pulp down so far. Friendly Fires, James Blake, Kele to come. Splendour on the weekend. I’ll sleep when im dead…

5. SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE “The Ship Song” promo. We are so lucky to be Australian and to have such brilliant artists, right? I get goosebumps every time i see it.

And just one more … (please let it be true) … DAMON ALBARN curating the Sydney Festival in January and bringing his new Opera to town. Read the rumour here.

Blood Pressures set to rise with The Kills

The busiest duo in music The Kills are back with their fourth offering, Blood Pressures the follow up to 2008’s album Mightnight Boom.

The duo better known for their other pursuits of late – Alison Mosshart joining Jack White in The Dead Weather and Jamie Hince garnering tabloid fame as Kate Moss’s boyf.– headed back into the studio last year to record the album.

The Kills For the sessions that became Blood Pressures, Jamie and Alison returned to Key Club Studios, Michigan where they reunited with Midnight Boom engineers Bill Skibbe and Jessica Ruffins. Produced by Jamie Hince, the album was mixed in London by Tom Elmhirst.

On the band’s website they posted run down of events that occurred while recording the album, including extreme weather conditions, hungry dogs, failed games of rummy and crashing bicycles… check it out here

With their basic sound intact – searing guitars, driving rhythms and sexually charged lyrical savvy – the 11 tracks on Blood Pressures find The Kills embracing a fuller sound and becoming more adventurous in the studio, while the lyrics are honest, heartfelt and sometimes just plain heartbreaking. Departing from the sparse, angular sound of Midnight Boom, the duo explores complex textures on Blood Pressures.

Blood Pressures Tracklist:

1. Future Starts Slow
2. Satellite
3. Heart Is A Beating Drum
4. Nail In My Coffin
5. Wild Charms
6. DNA
7. Baby Says
8. Last Goodbye
9. Damned If She Do
10. You Don’t Own The Road
11. Pots and Pans

Blood Pressures will be released in Australia on Domino on April 8th 2011. Woop!

The Kills come a killing…

kills_400x300

If, like the majority of rock’no’rollers, you’ve been salivating over your skinny black jeans and cowboy boots at the thought of Domino Records duo The Kills coming to Australia to play their delightfully scuzzy garage punk tunes from Midnight Boom, then some good news… V Festival are about to make all your dreams come true, with the announcement that Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart will be joining their merry musical circus around the nation in March/April 09 PLUS playing sideshows (supported by Louis XIV – a hot ticket if ever there was one, yes?).

The typically lo-fi video for Tape Song contains footage filmed by the band while on tour in the US with The Raconteurs (aka The Saboteurs) and you can watch it right here:
