You can run, but you can’t hide from the spotlight when you write jams like Ruban Nielson. The ex-Mint Chick took a sabbatical to Portland when the New Zealand based band split in 2010, taking up a career in illustration and making music from his bedroom, just for kicks.

Assuming the namesake Unknown Mortal Orchestra it wasn’t long until his new songs were discovered via Bandcamp, and drummer Julien Ehrich and bassist Jake Portrait were recruited. Live, they are psychedelic, fuzzed out, melodious and revered, and they’ll be pulling up in Aus for the summer with performances announced at Homebake & Falls Festivals.
