We have received word and sight of a new project from Jón Þór Birgisson, but the mystery is yet to unravel…
Head over to jonsi.com to preview 5 snippets from tracks (in English no less!) from the upcoming solo release. And if that doesn’t sate your appetite, sign up to his mailing list to receive a free mp3 of Boy Lilikoi.
For those of you unacquainted with the ethereal mews of Jónsi, he is the voice behind Icelandic heart-melters, Sigur Ros and recent side project Jonsi and Alex.

Yep, exactly what it sounds like… hit up www.lcdsoundsystem.com for your one of 20,000 free mp3s of Bye Bye Bayou; LCD Soundsystem’s unique and wonderful take on Alan Vega’s original, recorded for November’s Record Store Day spinoff Vinyl Saturday.
Pitchfork called it a “hypnotic deadpan disco treat”, and to be honest I can’t think of a better description. LCD’s Bye Bye Bayou creates a space of slightly unsettling bliss, like a zombie reunion at a spaced-out disco filmed in slow-mo… or whaddeva (see below).
The new Royksopp video This Must Be It is hella trippy: a semi-biblical story set in a nude hippy utopia (but doesn’t it get cold in Scandinavia!?). It was directed by acclaimed Swedish directors Filip and Andreas Nilsson, who are also responsible for some great nuggets like Moby’s Alice, Jose Gonzalez’ Teardrop, Domino-fave Bonde de Role’s Office Boy, and my personal fave The Knife’s Silent Shout.
And yep those vocals are courtesy of fellow Scandinavian Karin Dreijer Andersson – another connection with The Knife.
The central character (protagonist, even?) in is a friendly chap named Runar. I get the feeling he’s a friend of the family, but he clearly had to audition anyway:
The This Must Be It digital single comes with TEN brand new mixes, all of which you can grab from Oct 24… but for the moment you can download the Leht MoJoe remix for free from the Royksopp members page. (LMJ is responsible for some pretty hot remixes of Major Lazor, Kings of Leon, and Au Revoir Simone)
If you fancy doing your own Royksopp remix – and winning yourself a copy of Ableton Live 8 while you’r at it – head over to Royksopp’s Soundcloud for the stems to another Junior album track, Tricky Tricky.
In the tradition of sexy dreamy French electro, AIR are releasing Love 2 – their fifth studio album on Oct 2.
And what a studio… Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin recorded in their own private studio named Atlas, nestled in the leafy backstreets of northern Paris. So it’s no wonder that the single Sing Sang Sung sounds like a glass of rose wine wine and puppy dogs skipping down the Seine on a summer Sunday afternoon. Even our resident office cranky-pants (no names) loves it. Check out the clip on the widget below.
Looking for a local gig this week? And some free music so you’re all-researched up? …and a free beer with that? (Ok, we can’t deliver on the last option, but try the bartender anyway…)
Well here’s Jez Mead. He’s a well-travelled Aussie journeyman who has released raw, authentic, hearty albums independently since ‘01. This time, Jez has released his Sucker EP on his own newly created label Bellyup Records.
You don’t really expect someone called “Danger Mouse” to create tunes as charming as this… But the duo of Helena Costas and Danger Mouse make up Joker’s Daughter, and the music is – simply put – lovely.
Their debut album The Last Laugh includes the georgeous single Lucid, the video of which directed by Hayley Morris who recently won Best Animated Short at the Sundance Film Festival.
The band are also giving away their track Under The Influence Of Jaffa Cake (let’s face it, who hasn’t been under it’s sweet-orangey influence??). Click on the arrow button the right hand side of the above widget to download.
The Little Idiot AKA Moby (we’re not being mean, that’s his own name for the l’il guy below) is giving away the title track from his new album Wait For Me via Soundcloud. Cheers mate!
To download it, hit the arrow button on the right-hand-side of the audio player. If you like what you hear, you can get the album in full from iTunes etc.
For a rather limited time (2 weeks to be exact) we have partnered with the good folk at triple j to give YOU free music! Dreams Come True Girl is the new single from my favourite crooner of cool, Cass McCombs. Haven’t heard it? Shame on you! Get thee educated by dropping by triple j to get yourself a copy for nix! You can even get a preview here by watching the clip, which is a (kinda odd) combination of vintage (see silverscreen legend Karen Black swanning around) and contemporary (indoor skate park! Woo!).
You might think you don’t know Cass McCombs but maybe you remember this song from the IKEA ad?
That’s the super-sweet Pregant Pause from his debut LP Dropping The Writ which I can highly recommend. Standout tracks include That’s That and my favourite to sing in the morning Crick In My Neck. As Molly would say, do yourself a favour!
