How much is that doggie in the window?

Oh an obvious one … but I couldn’t resist! This week, we have welcomed three little doggies into the EMI Art Project windows.

Titled ‘Dogs of Perception’ these three thought-provoking works are by Byron Bay artist Palmer.

Originally from London, Christian Palmer escaped the dreary weather of the UK in favour of travelling the globe before finally settling in sunny Byron Bay (and why wouldn’t you!!)

‘Dogs of Perception’ is a fusion of graphics, illustration, traditional painting and street art which reflects on our inherent preconceptions of the world in a way that is playful and always endearing.   Palmer’s imagery often features animals such as dogs alongside thoughtful questions concerning the human condition – whether you’re an animal lover or a philosopher, these works are bound to put a smile on your face!

howcanibeabetterhuman

The three pieces are individually titled: ‘How can I be a better human?’, ‘We are all stuck in our minds’ and ‘Do you see the madness?’

Christian came to us via UpRaw, a division of Art Equity who we have just established a great relationship with in their support of up and coming artists.

Supporting and promoting the creative talent of emerging artists is a commitment UpRaw is proud of and serious about. UpRaw stages regular pop-up exhibitions in cool urban spaces and are actively involved in arts initiatives in Australia and beyond. UpRaw offers exceptional original art at great prices to art lovers across the globe.

Please swing by and check out ‘Dogs of Perception’ in the Flinders Street window this month.

This is what Mel B has to say about her signing; “I’m overly excited to finally announce this amazing global partnership deal back home with EMI Music. I know I have mentioned doing music in the past but for legal reasons I was not in a position to release any new music.  For my fans, I am happy and proud to say my music WILL be heard this year and that is for sure a promise I’m over the moon to say the least.  Love me or hate me, scary spice is back, hahahaha!!!”

Sigur Ros announce new album + new video

Prepare to be swept off your feet and into another world – the ethereal Icelandic band, Sigur Ros are about to return with their most recent studio album, Valtari. After a couple of years hiatus from the studio, the latest record – due for release in May – is set to be yet another beautiful masterpiece.

sigurrosThe quartet and their mixer Alex Somers spent hours experimenting with long ambient original tracks; the band describing the sound as “an avalance in slow-motion”. Puzzle pieces of atmospheric sessions were slowly pieced together, but the process was evidently challenging and the band did decide to put the album on hold. It wasn’t until 2010, following Jonsi’s solo ventures, that an opportunity arose for a film score, inspiring ’Varuo’  – Valtari’s majestic masterpiece. Eventually, the puzzle was complete.

Have a listen to the first track off the new album ‘Ekki Mukk’.

Valtari will be released on double LP, CD and digital download on May 25th.

Jet Call it a Day

It’s a sad day at EMI HQ following news that Jet has decided to call it quits.  The Melbourne band formed in 2001 and sold over 6.5 million records worldwide.  “They will be fondly remembered as a true success story in Australian music, going on to conquer the world,” says Mark Poston,  Chairman EMI Australasia. “They lived the dream that many aussie bands aspire to … cutting their teeth the small pubs of Melbourne and then being signed to a major label record deal…then going on to sell millions of albums and tour the world many times over.”

jet

Here’s the official message from the band, as posted on their website earlier today:

“After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group. From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight.”
