Jet Call it a Day

It’s a sad day at EMI HQ following news that Jet has decided to call it quits.  The Melbourne band formed in 2001 and sold over 6.5 million records worldwide.  “They will be fondly remembered as a true success story in Australian music, going on to conquer the world,” says Mark Poston,  Chairman EMI Australasia. “They lived the dream that many aussie bands aspire to … cutting their teeth the small pubs of Melbourne and then being signed to a major label record deal…then going on to sell millions of albums and tour the world many times over.”

Here’s the official message from the band, as posted on their website earlier today:

“After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group. From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and goodnight.”

JET: The busiest men in rock’n'roll this week

JET flew back into Australia this week after a couple of months touring overseas to appear on the first show of Hey Hey It’s Saturday and blew the 1.5 million viewers away with performances of She’s a Genius and Seventeen. Their GOLD album quickly jumped back up the iTunes chart to #11 and they were interviewed by anyone who was anyone in media including (but certainly not limited to) Hamish & Andy, Triple M’s Grill Team, The Today Show, Nova Nights, Angela Bishop, Hot 30 and B105 + heaps of press.

The Grill Team were proud to present them with a GOLD award this morning on air for their album Shaka Rock and single She’s A Genius seen here:

One of my favourite moments from this visit was their cover of INXS’s Never Tear Us Apart at Nova.

JET will be touring with Powderfinger later this year and tickets go on sale at the end of this month… don’t miss it.

JET return to OZ twice in the next few months

At a press conference held in Sydney yesterday Powderfinger had a few HUGE announcements, one being that they will be kicking off their final tour this September / October called ‘Sunsets – The Farewell Tour’ – their biggest yet – and they will be joined by JET!

JET also announce today that they will be in the country next week for a promotional tour from Tuesday April 13 to Friday April 16 to promote their Gold album Shaka Rock and latest smash single Seventeen, the band will head to Sydney and hometown Melbourne before preparing what is to be, THE ultimate Australian concert of 2010!

She’s a Genius, the album’s first single is charging well beyond Gold sales and was recently nominated for the APRA ‘Song of the Year’ award!

Current single Seventeen is cranking up to be yet another smash. For a snapshot look at JET on the road and loads of Aussie gigs that you might have been at over the last few months including Live At the Chapel and their Greenday support tour, check out the video for Seventeen:

JET make Australia proud at the Winter Olympics

The boys from JET performed at this years Winter Olympics to a massive crowd in what looks like very cold conditions. Here’s their new single Seventeen which Australian radio are currently loving!

JET’s new single ‘Seventeen’

JET are releasing their new single Seventeen in Australia first. Personally my favourite track of their album Shaka Rock.

Jet - Seventeen

Chris Cester, JET’s drummer and singer (how he does both at once is beyond me!) told us about the writing of this song:

Shaka Rock is out now.

Nic Cester from Jet joins Muse at the Big Day Out

Well it was bloody hot at this years Big Day Out Sydney but there was heaps to see and do to stop you thinking about the weather
Highlights for me were definately Peaches, Dizzy and Jet but it was all really topped off by Muse…AMAZING, especially their encore performance of ACDC’s ‘Back In Black’ with Nic Cester from Jet. Check it out here:

Lots more reports from the Big Days Out coming right up – it’s not finished the national tour yet!

The Tote is Closing FOREVER this weekend!!!

As I sit in my office here in Sydney I am AGAIN saddened by the fact that another icon Australia music venue is closing its doors.

The Tote - Collingwood

But this one holds even more sentimental value than most as the Tote, on the corner of Johnston and Wellington Streets in Collingwood, was not only my old local but a venue that gave me some of my first gigs when I started playing music, it was the venue that hosted the very last Best Of The Brat, I went to two very rock’n'roll wedding receptions at, we had one my best mate Marcus’s 21st there so our bands could play and I saw some of the best and formative gigs there, from the Powder Monkeys and The Hellacopters to The White Stripes, Andre Williams and JET.

This venue to me was as iconic as CBGBS and sadly like CBGBS, all amazing things must come to an end.
